Department of Music, T.N.U.A.」。

TNUA’s Department of Music has introduced a program of credit courses allowing students to do internships at the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO). The program will start accepting applications in mid May from students wishing to benefit from the music platform bridging TNUA and Taiwan’s top orchestra. Prof. Shien-Ta Su, dean of the School of Music, noted that NSO is the most representative of Taiwan’s symphonic orchestras, and TNUA’s music students can practice what they have learnt before graduating and looking for work. The platform is meant to help produce professional performers and management personnel, Prof. Su said. The program shows the NSO’s recognition of years of efforts by TNUA in promoting music and training musicians. Ms. Joyce Y. Chiou, executive director of NSO, noted that the program offers performing internships: six violinists, two cellists, two double bassists, one player for each of the wind instruments, and one harpist. Ms. Chiou said working as a member of a professional orchestra means you have to make preparations well ahead of schedule. She said the program will also arrange various master classes for the students. Students admitted to the music management internships will work at NSO for a year, allowing them to have deeper and systematic understanding of the workings of an orchestra. Prof. Wen-Yea Lu, chairperson of the Department of Music, stressed that the program will provide invaluable experiences for students planning their future careers either as professional performers or music management personnel. The applicants will have to take a two-stage admission test towards the end of June, and the successful applicants will be announced in July
