The TNUA-organized 2024 International Forum for Art and Sustainability will be held on October 4 and 5.

The two-day forum will be exploring the dual themes of “Cultural Policy” and “Industry Development” across five key topics: “Sustainable Cultural Policies for the Arts,” “Sustainable Festivals,” “Theatre Green Book 2.0,” “Sustainable Development of Museums,” and “Youth and Sustainability.”

The discussions will highlight the critical role of cultural policies across various countries in driving global climate action, and how various art sectors can implement sustainable art practices to extend their influence on stakeholders.

The first edition of the International Forum for Art and Sustainability took place in 2022, focusing on forming initiatives and putting visions into practice. Over the past two years, TNUA has teamed up with many institutions to plan and implement sustainable art policies. This year, the third edition of the forum will shift its focus to “promotion.” With over 40 experts and scholars from Taiwan and around the world expected to participate, the event aims to forge industry consensus and amplify the forum’s influence through in-depth discussions on policy and practice.

In 2023, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) set up the International Committee on Museums and Sustainable Development (SUSTAIN), a platform for exchanging information and action plans between museums around the world.
This year, the speakers include many notable international figures in sustainable art, including: Hannah Graham, Arts Council England Programme Manager of Julie’s Bicycle; Paddy Dillon and Lisa Burger, authors of the Theatre Green Book; and Prof. Eric Herve H. Ponthieu, an EU cultural policy expert. Prominent speakers from the Arts Council England, Festival d’Avignon in France, Vivid Sydney, Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Australia, and the Manchester Museum in the UK, along with key industry figures promoting the Theatre Green Book in Europe, Scotland, Belgium, and Australia, will be participating online.

Young promoters of sustainability from Taiwan will also be sharing their art and education projects. Government bodies and other institutions from Taiwan will also share their action plans.

Scheduled for October 4 and 5, the 2024 International Forum for Art and Sustainability will be live-streamed in its entirety in both English and Chinese on YouTube.

Furthermore, to enhance the sustainable expertise of theatre professionals, three workshops will be held at National Theater and Concert Hall on October 7 and 8. These include the Creative Climate Leadership workshop by Natalie Highwood of Julie’s Bicycle, and the Sustainable Productions and Operations workshops led by Paddy Dillon and Lisa Burger from Theatre Green Book, ideal for those looking to explore creative climate leadership or to implement the Theatre Green Book into their work.
