TNUA on May 22 unveiled a plaque at the Center for Art and Technology in honor of the late French philosopher Bernard Stiegler for his contribution to art, technology and philosophy.

The plaque, installed on the second floor of the center, bears two inscriptions: a quote by Stiegler and another by Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Yuk HUI, who was also present at the unveiling ceremony.

Viewed from different angles, the plaque shows either Stiegler’s quote “L'artiste est une figure exemplaire de l‘individuation,” or Prof. HUI’s “Art augments the senses, making what is invisible sensible.”

The plaque is a computer-aided 3D sculptural design by a TNUA student under the guidance of Prof. Chang Nai Wen of the Department of Fine Arts.

During the unveiling ceremony, TNUA President Prof. Chen Kai-Huang noted that both Stiegler and Prof. HUI were at TNUA in November 2019 to take part in a series of technology forums. TNUA is also making plans to publish a collection of Stiegler’s works and establish a philosophy of technology lab at the Center for Art and Technology.

Prof. HUI from Erasmus University Rotterdam was at TNUA from May 20-24, during which he gave a lecture and a workshop, focused on the impacts of automation and robots on human beings, artists included.
