Maestro Shao-Chia Lü is conducting the TNUA Orchestra in a concert on May 28. The concert is part of a music education program jointly run by the TSMC Education & Culture Foundation, National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) and TNUA.
The program has helped lay the foundations for the careers of many up-and-coming musicians since it was first introduced four years ago. For example, TNUA student Szu-An Chen’s work “Three Visions of Rain,” composed for a project under the program, was premiered at a Stuttgarter Philharmoniker concert conducted by Mario Venzago.
During a press conference on May 21 to introduce the concert, Prof. Wen-Yea Lu, Dean of the School of Music, expressed gratitude to the TSMC foundation and Prof. Lü for their support of the education of young musicians.
It will be the first time that Prof. Lü will conduct the TNUA Orchestra at the National Concert Hall since becoming a distinguished professor of TNUA.
Mr. Victor Hsu, Chief Executive of the TSMC Education & Culture Foundation, noted that youth development is at the very core of his foundation’s promotion of cultural and educational activities. Apart from financial support, the foundation is also helping them obtain resources from professional performers, schools and other institutions, he said, thanking Prof. Lü and NSO for their support.
Prof. Lü noted that over the past four years, his teaching work at TNUA has allowed him to feel clearly that a legacy is evolving. He said he is happy to see the passion and devotion that the students have shown in each and every concert he has conducted.
NSO Executive Director Kuo Wen-Chen also thanked TSMC for helping young musicians realize their dreams.
