Artists in residence Mr. Marurice Durozier and Ms. Aline Borsari from France's Theatre du Soleil recently concluded their stay at TNUA, during which they had given various workshops and lectures.
Their residency, which lasted from September to November, was sponsored by the Ministry of Education under a program to introduce to Taiwan important figures in contemporary theatre.
Many of their activities, such as rehearsals, were open to everyone. And they had opportunities to share their experiences and techniques with TNUA students, teachers and other local theatre practitioners.
During their stay, they arranged a series of classes for almost 40 students three days (from Friday to Sunday) a week, giving them training that is typical of the Theatre du Soleil.
They showed them the key concepts of improvisation, which they later relied on when rehearsing scenes from Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and "Twelfth Night."
It often took the teachers a lot of time to prepare for the classes. Mr. Durozier would spend an entire afternoon working with students to set up the stage needed for the class the next day. The practical work for the students was meant to help them develop an awareness of the stage and a passion for their creative work.
From November 13 to 15, the teachers and their students demonstrated their creativity through improvisation, exploring the possibilities of creativity in a diverse body culture.
