Mrs. Kim Simplis-Barrow, wife of Belize Prime Minister Dean Barrow, accompanied by ROC first lady Christine Chow, received a warm welcome by TNUA President Prof. Ju, Tzong-Ching during a visit to the school on August 1.

The guests of honor admired works of art at the Center for Art and Technology and the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, and also visited the Performing Arts Center and other campus facilities.

Mrs. Simplis-Barrow noted the beauty of the TNUA campus, which she said was full of pleasant surprises. She said she could feel the characteristics of artistic diversities from each and every corner of the school – be it a place for visual art or technology.

She said such an art exchange activity enhanced her understanding of different aspects of Taiwan’s culture and she would never forget this pleasant trip to TNUA.

Prof. Ju, along with other school officials who greeted the guests, said he recalled the time when he led a percu-ssion group to accompany President Ma Ying-jeou to his state visit to Belize in 2009. He said Mrs. Simplis-Barrow gave the delegation a warm welcome and had active interaction with the performers.

The TNUA president also lauded Mrs. Simplis-Barrow for her contribution to international charity work. He added that it was an honor of the TNUA to receive the guest from Beilize, and that the trip would enhance Belize’s understanding of Taiwan’s arts and culture, and strengthen the friendship between the two countries.

TNUA musicians entertained the guests with a concert. Prof. Su Shien-ta, chairman of the Department of Music, conducted a performance that included Ponce-Heifetz’s “Estrellita” and Wieniawski’s “Obertass Op.19 No.1.” The guests also enjoyed another performance combining percussion of the West and traditional music from the East.
