Philippine artist Roger Tibon created a piece of site-specific installation art blending natural materials with the natural environment at TNUA's Forest Theatre in September.

Mr. Tibon's project, sponsored by TNUA and the Guandu Nature Park, was part of the 2014 Guandu International Outdoor Sculpture Festival.

The artist's work,“Fiddleheads,”echoed the festival's theme,“A Micro View of Nature,” by playing with the curled shapes of the tips of young fern shoots. Such shapes can also be found in many other things in nature, such as shells and horns, as well as in man-made objects, such as art, architecture and furniture.

Such elements of nature, big or small, are dependent on one another. For example, ferns are an important part of the eco-system, providing food and shelter for living organisms. For those who are perceptive, these elements provide inspirations for art.
Mr. Tibon's works have been featured in many international and local exhibitions. He has conducted workshops and served as artist-in-residence in South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam and Australia.

It is the fourth time that he has taken part in the Guandu International Outdoor Sculpture Festival. His latest work of art will be on display at the Forest Theatre until December 31.

TNUA and the Guandu Nature Park have been working closely on a number of occasions in recent years, with the university's teachers and outside artists having been invited to create works of art inside the park.

TNUA, the park and Guandu Temple plan to launch a cultural festival in October 2015 presenting the natural environment, art and religious activities of the Guandu (Kuandu) area.
