The School of Dance arranged a Balinese traditional dance workshop, as well as a separate demonstration by a modern dancer from Korea in September.
The two-week Balinese dance workshop was conducted by Prof. Nyoman Sudewi from the Indonesia Institute of the Arts, Yogyakarta.
Prof. Nyoman Sudewi gave basic training to 18 students taking part in the workshop, preparing them for a dance that they will perform at the School of Dance's year-end production. The training included basic steps and movements, as well as costume and make-up lessons.
Prof. Sal Murgiyanto from the Indonesian school will then take over to perfect the students' skills in two weeks of intensive rehearsal starting from December 7 ahead of the performance.
Prof. Nyoman Sudewi was deeply impressed by the students' capability of learning the dance so well in such a short time.
The School of Dance also arranged a demonstration by Korean modern dancer Jee Hyun Noh while she was in Taipei playing a part in“The Phantom of the Opera”musical being staged in the city in September.
Ms. Noh has performed with the London City Ballet, the Scottish Ballet, the English National Ballet and the National Ballet of Berlin. She has also taken part in musical productions, including“The Phantom of the Opera”and“Beauty and the Beast.”
She chose a jazz dance from the musical of “Chicago”for her demonstration to almost 60 TNUA dance students.
