An exhibition of Prof. Donato Lamarque Moreno’s manuscripts is being held at the Theatre Arts and Dance Building in memory of the theatre designer and dedicated educator, who passed away last year.
The “Prof. Donato Lamarque Moreno Manuscript Memorial Exhibition,” which runs until September 26, is organized by the Department of Theatrical Design and Technology, where he had spent years teaching stage design, costume design and painting techniques.
In 1982, Prof. Donato Lamarque Moreno received his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from Cornell University. His teaching career spanned both the United States and Asia. He taught at Cornell University, Ithaca College, and the North Carolina School of the Arts. He later served as Head of the Department of Theatre and Film Design at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts from 1995 to 2005. In 2005, he joined the Department of Theatrical Design and Technology at TNUA, becoming the department’s first full-time foreign faculty member.
During his tenure at TNUA from 2005 to 2014, and again from 2018 to 2022, he drew upon decades of international teaching and professional experience to inspire and nurture countless outstanding talents in theatre design, earning the deep respect and admiration of his students. He not only introduced international perspectives in theatre aesthetics to the department but also made a lasting contribution to theatre education in Taiwan.
The design manuscripts showcased in this exhibition were generously donated to the department by his sister, Ms. Beatriz Lamarque Moreno. These works are both precious and meaningful, serving as a heartfelt tribute to his artistic life and legacy.
