“Masterpieces from the National Gallery, London,” an exhibition at the Chimei Museum in Tainan, has been voted as the biggest news of the cultural and art scene in Taiwan in 2024, according to TNUA’s Graduate Institute of Arts Management and Administration.
In second place is “Van Gogh – Journey of Light” at Fubon Art Museum in Taipei, followed by Taiwan’s demonstration of its artistic creativity and diversity at Olympiade Culturelle in Paris during the Summer Olympics, according to the vote on the top-10 cultural and art news of Taiwan in 2024 conducted by the Graduate Institute of Arts Management and Administration.
The “Ryuichi Sakamoto & Tin Drum: KAGAMI” concert at the National Theater and “Beauty Speaks for Itself” at the National Palace Museum received the fourth and fifth highest number of votes, respectively.
The organizer disclosed that the results were based on 1,246 valid responses to its questionnaire, with almost 60% of the voters coming from outside of the arts and cultural domains.
The results of the vote were revealed at a press conference on December 25, 2024, presided over by TNUA Vice President Prof. Huei-Ling Liu, Dean of Research and Development Prof. Kuo-Hua Yu, Prof. Wei Hsiang from the Graduate Institute of Arts Management and Administration, National Palace Museum Director Hsiao Tsung-Huang, Fubon Art Museum Deputy Director Lin Yu-chieh, and Chimei Museum Director Kuo Ling-Ling.
Minister of Culture Lee Yuan, in a video-recorded message shown during the press conference, said he hopes more people can take part in cultural activities, fueling the culture industry.
Prof. Liu noted that the Graduate Institute of Arts Management and Administration has been conducting the annual vote on Taiwan’s top-10 cultural and arts news since 2011, allowing students to contribute to the social responsibility of the arts community.
National Palace Museum Director Hsiao Tsung-Huang said the ongoing the “Beauty Speaks for Itself” exhibition is a demonstration of cultural diversity and international collaboration.
Fubon Art Museum Deputy Director Lin Yu-chieh said more efforts will be devoted to expanding international exchange, while Chimei Museum Director Kuo Ling-Ling said the museum is convinced that its mission is to showcase the world’s important works of art in Taiwan.
