TNUA Vice President Prof. Liu Huei-ling has described the restaging of Pina Bausch’s “The Rite of Spring” as one of the most important events of TNUA this year.
She was speaking at a press conference on November 20 about the upcoming performances of the classic dance.
Salomon Bausch, Chairman of the Pina Bausch Foundation, said in a pre-recorded video clip that he is eager to see the young dancers carry on the legendary choreographer’s legacy.
Following the press conference, Yu Tsai-Chin, artistic director of the reproduction, led a dance skill demonstration session to share Bausch’s unique artistic expressions.
It is the first Asian reproduction of “The Rite of Spring” authorized by the Pina Bausch Foundation.
The reproduction, a highlight of this year’s Kuandu Arts Festival, will take the dance to Taipei, Kaohsiung and Taichung for a total of nine performances running from December 2024 till January 2025.
Speaking at the press conference, Prof. Liu said the reproduction attests to the international recognition of TNUA’s School of Dance. It also shows TNUA’s commitment to sharing its achievements with society. Accompanying the performances will be workshops and lectures providing learning opportunities for all those who love dance.
Prof. Liu thanked Prof. Ho Hsiao-Mei, Dean of the School of Dance, and all those involved in the event, including the sponsors, for making the reproduction possible.
Prof. Ho thanked Prof. Lin Hwai-Min, founder of the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, for helping materialize the project of restaging “The Rite of Spring” in Taiwan.
The restaging of the legendary choreographer’s work will feature TNUA alumnus Yu Tsai-Chin, a dancer from Wuppertal Tanztheater, together with four other dancers who received training under Bausch.
Bausch’s “The Rite of Spring” premiered in 1975, and has since become a classic in the world of dance.
