Russian pianist Lilya Zilberstein gave a master class at TNUA on April 10.
With Prof. Constance Lee acting as her interpreter, Zilberstein used Liszt’s “Mephisto Waltz No.1, S.514,” Beethoven’s “Piano Sonata in E-flat Major, Op.31, No.3,” and Schumann’s “Carnaval, Op.9” to demonstrate piano skills.
Three students from TNUA, NTNU and NTNU’s Affiliated Senior High School, received detailed instructions from Zilberstein. She stressed that one must pay attention to details while playing the piano, such as breathing and balance.
Zilberstein won the Concorso Busoni in 1987. The following four years, no one was awarded the first prize in the competition. She is known for her renditions of Liszt, Rachmaninoff and Mussorgsky.
