The Dalan indigenous peoples’ society at TNUA gave a flash-mob performance of dance and music on campus on November 24 as part of the university’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
The performance was inspired by the Sediq people and created by Dalan members following a year-long study of its history, tradition, culture, music and dance.
The Dalan society was formed two years ago, and earlier this year its choir won the first prize of group performance at an indigenous song contest among northern Taiwan college students from the indigenous peoples.
Their studies took them to the mountains to learn from the Sediq people in August, during which they were taught how to make bows and arrows, how to weave traditional textile, and how to sing and interpret the indigenous people’s traditional songs.
For the flash-mob performance, the students also made their own costumes. The dance was choreographed with help from Dahu, a graduate student at the School of Dance, and its music was fine-tuned by Kiwa from the Department of Music.
