The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) held a ceremony at TNUA on September 6 marking the start of its International Higher Education Scholarship Program for 2022.
A total of 161 students and program managers from 20 local universities attended the ceremony.
TNUA is among the 20 universities, which also include: National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, National Cheng Kung University, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, National Chung Cheng University, National Chung Hsing University, National Taiwan Ocean University, National Dong Hwa University, National Yang Ming Chia Tung University, National Taiwan Normal University, National Tsing Hua University, National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism, Ming Chuan University, Taipei University of Marine Technology, Taipei Medical University, I-Shou University, Kun Shan University, and Yuan Ze University.
TaiwanICDF Secretary General Amb. Timothy T.Y. Hsiang, speaking at the ceremony, noted that there are 34 scholarship programs for undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. students from countries that maintain diplomatic or friendly relationships with Taiwan. Studies include science, engineering, agriculture, public health, business management and the humanities.
He expressed the hope that the foreign students in this year’s programs can have a fruitful cultural exchange and learning experience during their stay in Taiwan.
TNUA President Prof. Chen Kai-Huang extended a warm welcome to all the students in the program, and thanked TaiwanICDF for allowing TNUA to host the ceremony.
Prof. Chen also extended an invitation to all of them to return to TNUA in October to share the fun the university will be offering in activities marking its 40th anniversary.
The ceremony was also held online for students who could not attend it because of the COVID pandemic.
Foreign dignitaries present at the ceremony included ambassadors and diplomats from the Marshall Islands, Haiti, Saint Lucia, the Kingdom of Eswatini, Paraguay, Honduras, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
