The School of Music arranged a series of maestro lectures towards then of last semester, featuring world-renowned violinist Hu Nai-yuan and conductor Lu Shao-chia, both of whom also performed together in the TNUA Orchestra Fall-Winter Concert 2021.

Mr. Hu offered students 25 one-on-one and chamber music lessons from December 6 till 23, 2021. Mr. Lu gave six students one-on-one instructions on conducting.

On December 13, Mr. Hu and M. Lu had a dialogue on music, with Prof. Shien-Ta Su, dean of the School of Music as the moderator. They shared the experiences during their years of music career.

Mr. Hu said musicians can convey their feelings and emotions through their interpretations of musical pieces. He said Beethoven’s work reflects his time, trying to enlighten people and encouraging them to pursue their rights. Mozart’s music reflects life with mixed emotions.

Mr. Lu musical the conductor’s role as we know it now was more or less established at the time of Mendelssohn. Now it’s all about team work, and the conductor is not above anyone else in the team. The conductor may have authority, but that does not mean that he or she can “dictate” everything, he said.

Musicians nowadays have their own ideas and the “authority” of the conductor should be established naturally, and the key thing is mutual communication.
