The Paul Taylor Dance Company performed at the 2016 Kuandu Arts Festival and also conducted a workshop showing participants a different kind of training in October.
Mr. Paul Taylor, regarded as one of the most successful American artists ever, founded his own dance company in 1954, and since then he has been eager to create original American modern dances.
Having performed with the Martha Graham Dance Company for years, he is seen as an important bridge linking the modern dance legend with dancers of the 21st century.
His dance company has staged performances in 520 cities across 64 countries since its establishment more than 60 years ago. With sponsorships from the American government, the company has represented the United States in arts festivals in more than 40 countries.
The trip to TNUA brought more than 20 members of the company to perform at the Kuandu Arts Festival a number of famous dances, including “Mercuric Tidings,” “Le Sacre du Printemps (the rehearsal),” “Cascade,” “Arden Court,” “Beloved Renegade” and “Promethean Fire.”
Mr. James Samson, who led the workshop on Oct. 21, taught its participants the Paul Taylor Dance Company’s unique way of training and bodily expressions.
He explained how dancers can use their bodily expressions to convey the meaning of the dance. The participants were all impressed by what they were taught. One of them said the training allowed him to feel that the body movements could be very fluid and smooth.
