“The Journey of  Fantasty– Taiwan/Japan Contemporary Art Interchange Exhibition,” an exhibition jointly presented by the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts (KdMoFA) and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Taipei, has opened at the Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo to mark the first anniversry of the center.

The exhibition’s opening ceremony on April 1 was attended by many distinguished guests from Taiwan and Japan, including: Prof. Toyomi Hoshina, vice president of Tokyo University of the Arts; Prof. Noboru Tsubaki, chairman of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Kyoto University of Art and Design; Mr.Yusaku Imamura, director of Tokyo Wonder Site; Ms. Yuko Nagase, director of Tomio Koyama Gallery; and Mr. Sonoyama Harumi, a board member of the Japan Print Association.

It is the first time that the Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo has ever held an exhibition showcasing a dialogue between the contemporary art in Taiwan and Japan to let the people in both countries have a better understanding of conceptual and photographic art and to promote cultural exchange between them.


Mr. Chu Wen-ching, director of the Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo, noted in his speeh at the opening ceremony that he hopes the exhibition can allow the visitors to better understand Taiwan’s culture. He added his center will continue to promote culutral exchange between Taiwan and Japan.

The exhibition, which runs till May 27, highlights a dialogue between the contemporary art in Taiwan and Japan, juxtaposing Taiwanese artist Hung-Chih Peng’s dog-themed video works with Japanese photographer Mika Ninagawa’s  “Flower Addict” series.
