The Kyoto University of Art and Design (KUAD), as vice chairman of the Asian League of Institutes of the Arts (ALIA), sent its representatives to meet with TNUA President Prof. Yang Chyi Wen, the chairman of ALIA, in July, seeking to tighten ties between the group's members.
The representatives from the Kyoto University of Art and Design were its vice president, Prof. Tatsuo Miyajima, and its director of international affairs, Prof. Aiko Hirai.
Extending a warm welcome to the guests, who arrived on July 29, Prof. Yang noted that since its establishment ALIA has been evolving into a major international organization focused on re-building the role of art in society.
Relying on art and culture as its medium, ALIA has been working towards building a cross-disciplinary global network, Prof. Yang stressed.
As its current chairman of the league, TNUA has been active in promoting exchanges between its existing members and at the same time in recruiting new members, he said, adding he has visited arts institutions in Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia and Brunei.
In June 2015, Prof. Yang was in Amsterdam meeting with Dr. Carla Delfos, executive director of the European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA), promoting exchanges between the two groups.
In order to create a long-term healthy mechanism for development, TNUA and the KUAD were exchanging ideas for the upcoming ALIA conference taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from December 11 to 13. The ideas would be discussed at the conference, and could make it to the agenda of the ALIA 2016 General Assembly in Istanbul, Turkey.
During their meeting, Prof. Yang and the KUAD representatives discussed matters concerning the theme for the upcoming conference in Kuala Lumpur, the election of the ALIA chairmanship, the establishment of its headquarters, and the implementation of its declarations unveiled in Kyoto in 2013 and in Taipei in 2014.
