School of Theatre Arts to stage ‘Mahabharata‘
“Mahabharata,” the world longest epic written between 400 B.C. and 400 A.D., is about 100,000 verses long (roughly four million words). The Sanskrit epic tells of a struggle between two branches – the Kaurava and the Pandava – of the Bharata dynasty for the throne. The rivaling sides battle for 18 days with heavy casualties.
Eventually, they meet in heaven. All their hatred and anger have vanished, and in their place is peace. The epic is rich in mythological and literary elements, as well as philosophical, religious, political and moral discourses.
The TNUA School of Theatre Arts is presenting a three-and-half-hour stage adaptation of the epic in December. The production is sponsored by Taiyen, which is providing 4.3 tons of salt.
