The Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts (KdMoFA) is paying its tribute to the recently deceased artist Szeto Keung by arranging an exhibition – a special edition of its “One Piece Room” series – to showcase the art of a man who for many at TNUA was both a mentor and friend.
Mr. Szeto, who died of a heart attack in the United States in September this year at the age of 63, is dearly remembered by many for his long friendship with the school. When TNUA was still at its young age as the National Institute of Art, Mr. Szeto twice served as an artist-in-residence.
His charisma and carefree attitude towards art strongly impressed students at the time, and his learnedness and open-mindedness had a profound influence on many young artists.
Many students at the time became his friends, and many of them would eventually go on to shine in the world of art.
Mr. Szeto was always eager to greet visitors from the Greater China area at his SoHo studio in New York. And he was always willing to teach students whatever he knew. For many young artists, Mr. Szeto was not only a walking art dictionary, but also a mentor who inspired their creativity.
His untimely death has saddened many at the TNUA Department of Arts, as well as artists from worldwide Chinese communities.
The exhibition will feature a piece of Mr. Szeto’s art borrowed from the Taipei Museum of Fine Arts. It is running now till December 18, 2011.
