TNUA President Prof. Yang Chyi Wen led a delegation from the university to a four-day visit in Japan in April to expand Taiwan-Japan cooperation in arts education.

The delegation included: Dean of Academic Affairs Prof Liu Hsi-Chuan; Prof. Yuan Goang-Ming, chairperson of the Department of New Media Art; and Prof. Li-Yun Huang, head of the President's Office.

They departed for Japan on April 22, and visited Ochanomizu University, Tama Art University, the Toho Gakuen School of Music, and Taiwan's representative office in Japan during their stay in the country.

Prof. Yang noted that over the years TNUA has formed strategic alliances and conducted frequent exchange activities with several Japanese universities, including the Tokyo University of the Arts, the Kyoto University of Art and Design and the Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts.

TNUA and its Japanese counterparts have jointly arranged performances and exhibitions of various kinds, teacher and student exchanges, international forums, master classes and workshops, Prof. Yang said.

Apart from holding talks over various cooperation projects, Prof. Yang, in his capacity as the chairperson of the Asian League of Institutes of the Arts (ALIA), also invited the Japanese universities to join ALIA to contribute to the development of arts in Asia.

He also extended invitations asking them to take part in World Stage Design 2017 to be co-hosted by TNUA and the Taiwan Association of Theatre Technology.

During the trip, the TNUA delegation met with top administrators of the Japanese universities: Prof. Kimiko Murofushi, president of Ochanomizu University; Chairman of the Board of Directors Fujitani Nobuto and President Akira Tatehata at Tama Art University; and Prof. Tokihiko Umezu, president of the Toho Gakuen School of Music.
