Symposium discusses Prof. Ma Shui-Long’s music
TNUA on November 23 hosted a symposium on Prof. Ma Shui-long, with several local scholars presenting papers discussing the renowned musician’s work.
Prof. Ma also delivered a keynote speech on the development of his work at the opening ceremony of the symposium. There were also performances of his musical works at the event.
Ms. Wong Chin-chu, minister of the Council for Cultural Affairs, in her address to the opening ceremony, lauded Prof. Ma as both an internationally renownedmusician and a champion in cultivating Taiwan’s music education and culture. She thanked the professor for his years of devotion.
TNUA President Prof. Ju,Tzong-Ching said Prof. Ma’s idea of integrating the traditional with the modern and the west with the east, and his innovative way of teaching have had deep influence on both the University and the local art education throughout the years since the establishment of the school. Prof. Ju said one must learn from Prof. Ma’s perseverance.
The papers presented at the symposium looked at various aspects of Prof. Ma’s work, including cultural views, practice of music education, the visual imagery in his work, the relation between his work and ink and oil paintings.
