Marking its 30th anniversary, TNUA hosted the “Global Forum for the Presidents of Universities of the Arts,” as well as the "Cross-strait Forum for the Presidents of Universities of the Arts," in October to discuss a wide range of issues such as the training of talent, the balance between art and market, and strategies for blending tradition and innovation.
The two-day forum, running from October 19 to 20 under the theme “Art is Power,” brought together representatives from 26 arts universities and institutions from 12 countries.
Extending a warm welcome to the participants at the opening ceremony, TNUA President Prof. Ju, Tzong-Ching noted that the forum's theme was meant to discover the kind of power higher institutions for the arts should possess and how art could exert its influence.
The discussions by the experts and scholars could result in a better understanding of the issues and a consensus on them, showing a new direction for future art education, he added.
Apart from the host, the other representatives were from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, France, Austria, Poland, the United States and Australia.
The participants exchanged views on the management of arts universities, arts exchange, arts markets, training of artists, and many other issues. They illustrated their points by providing insights from their years of experience in arts education.
Some other local educators and cultural leaders, such as former ROC Premier Liu Chao-shiuan and Stanley Yen, president of The Alliance Cultural Foundation, were also invited to deliver speeches at the forum.
