Prof. Charles E. McCarry, a renowned production designer for lm and television and scenic designer for the theatre, conducted a workshop at TNUA in June.
Prof. McCarry, who has been active in both Broadway and Hollywood for more than three decades, demonstrated his art of film design during the one-week workshop, arranged by the Department of Filmmaking.
Prof. McCarry has taken part in the production of many films and TV drama series, including: "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" (2009); "American Gangsters" (2007); "The Departed" (2006); "War of the World" (2005); "School of Rock" (2003); "The Producers" (2005); "The Sixth Sense" (1999); "Elf" (2003); "Cop Land" (1997); "Wall Street" (1987); "Law and Order" (2010-14); "Hostages" (2013-14); "The Beautiful Life" (2009); "Ugly Betty" (2006-09); and "Sex and the City" (2000).
He has also been wor ked for T V dramatic productions in Greater China. He completed the production design work on a dramatic series, "Material Queen," in Taiwan 2011, and is now working for another production, "Lady and the Liar."
He has taught scenic design at Carnegie Mellon University, Temple University, Barnard College,and SUNY Purchase College, and film design at New York University. He is currently Production Designer-in-Residence at the Department of Visual & Media Arts, Emerson College.
During the workshop, Prof. McCarry used videos, photos and drawings to illustrate his styles at dierent stages of his career.
Students of the workshop had to complete production design projects assigned them, and their works were publicly displayed at the end of the workshop. Prof. McCarry said he was impressed by the students' works.
