The TNUA-organized month-long Kuandu Arts Festival kicked off with a bang on October 3, featuring artists from around the world in a sumptuous feast for the eyes and ears.

TNUA President Prof. Yang Chyi Wen pointed out that this year's theme, “CREATE,” is clearly meant to emphasize the importance of creativity and innovation.

He noted that the possibility of art turning education upside down has drawn much attention in recent years, and this year's Kuandu Arts Festival is a perfect showcase of such possibilities.

Prof. Liu Hwei-Jin, art director of the festival, said the 2014 edition presents not only various forms of art, but also “interesting” programs to lead more people into the world of art.

She cited the opening show of the festival, “Local Hero versus Western Soldier,” as such an“interesting”performance involving the collaboration of the TNUA Orchestra, the Department of Animation and a Taiwanese puppet troupe.

A special feature of this year's arts festival is the Hong Kong Week at Kuandu, which will entertain audiences with a dance drama inspired by the famous Chinese playwright Cao Yu's play “Thunderstorm.” It is directed by Tang Shu-wing, and jointly choreographed by Xing Liang and Mui Cheuk-yin.

Apart from music, dance and drama performances presented by the arts festival, three major events are also taking place at TNUA at the same time: the Kuandu Biennale, the Kuandu Film Festival and the Kuandu International Animation Festival.
