The Kuandu International Animation Festival featured talks by guest speakers from Japan, Croatia and Germany in November.

Prof. Satoshi Murakami from the Kyoto University of Art & Design gave a speech on the future of animation and its education.

Mr. Daniel Šuljić, artistic director of the Zagreb World Festival of Animated Film, talked about the history of animation in Croatia.

Prof. Raimund Krumme from the Academy of Media Arts Cologne gave a talk entitled “Drawing Motion.”

Prof. Murakami stressed that creativity is inspired by imagination, without which one may not be able to create the animation characters that one wants.

Mr. Šuljić, recounting the development of animation in Croatia, noted how Jewish immigrants brought the form of art to the country.

Walter &Norbert Neugebaur and some other comic artists then created their first Disney-style animation film, “The Big Meeting,” he said.

In 1958, Croatia stunned the world when seven of its animation films received nominations at the Cannes Film Festival. Animation artists also formed the Zagreb School of Animation.

In his talk, Prof. Krumme emphasized the importance of making sketches in the process of creation.

He said the sketches may not be of importance and may not be used in the final work, but they can more clearly represent the artist's ideas.International Animation Festival.
