World-renowned cellist Prof. Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, who is president of the Suntory Hall, gave a master class at TNUA and took part in a concert featured in the Kuandu Arts Festival in October.

Prof. Tsutsumi performed together with Prof. Hiroko Suseki from the Toho Gakuen School of Music in the concert, entertaining the audience with pieces by Beethoven, Brahms and Debussy that demonstrated not only his skills but also his mesmerizing rendition of the music. 

The Tokyo-born cellist has been well recognized as both a performer and educator. He has taught at Indiana University, the University of Illinois, the University of Western Ontario and the Oxford Community Art Center.

His concert performances have taken him around the world, and he has performed with ORTF, the Berlin Radio Symphony, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, and many other important orchestras in Rotterdam, London, Chicago, Indianapolis, Toronto and Vancouver, among others. 

He has also participated in numerous festivals such as the Algoma Fall, Banff, Guelph Spring, Ontario Place, Stradtford and Ravinia. 

He has also received many distinctions, including the Suntory Music Award and a Medal of Honor with purple ribbon by the government of Japan. 

When he was president of the Toho Gakuen School of Music, he attended the TNUA-hosted Global Forum for the Presidents of Universities of the Arts 2012, exchanging views with his counterparts from around the world.
