A TNUA overseas arts service delegation spent two weeks in Africa in September promoting Taiwan's culture.
The 14-member delegation, headed by Dean of Student Affairs Prof. Chan Huei-Teng, staged performances and conducted workshops, as well as other activities, during their stay in the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, and Burkina Faso.
The other members of the delegation were music, dance and theatre arts students, and they had started preparing for the trip as early as March. Another TNUA arts service team had just concluded a trip to Cambodia in the summer.
The latest delegation, which departed for Africa on September 4, first arrived in the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, becoming the first group of professional art performers from Taiwan that has visited the African country since it established diplomatic ties with Taiwan in 1997.
The delegation gave three performances and workshops. The TNUA artists demonstrated various aspects of Taiwanese culture at the workshops, including traditional Beiguan percussion music, martial arts, the indigenous peoples' dance and their arts and crafts.
In Burkina Faso, the TNUA artists staged two other performances. They were also arranged to meet with the country's minister of culture and tourism, Mr. Baba Hama. Both sides exchanged ideas of cultural exchanges between the two countries.
The delegation attracted full-house audiences for all of their five performances during the African trip.
