The Kuandu International Animation Festival will kick off on October 20 at the TNUA Arts and Activity Complex, with the seven-day event promising a feast of artistic activities.

This year, the festival has attracted 450 entries from 48 countries to its competition. Selected works for the final contest include animations that have won acclaim at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Amsterdam Animation Festival and SIGGRAPH.

The upcoming festival at TNUA will present its first-ever Kuandu Animation Awards at the closing ceremony on October 26.

The festival will open with the screening of famous French director Jean-François Laguionie's “The Painting.” His “Dark Island” will also be screened during the festival.

The closing film will be “Pork of Music” in the popular McDull feature series from Hong Kong.

Films from the Walt Disney-founded California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and France's Supinfocom will also be shown in a special series showcasing works from academic institutions well-known for their animation art.

The seven-day Kuandu International Animation Festival will feature more than 100 films, showcasing various forms of animation, including hand-drawn works, puppet animation, experimental animation, and computer-generated animation.

There will also be lectures. Jerzy Kular, director of Supinfocom, will talk about the international trends of animation education. Famous director Mike Nguyen will explain the process of creating his latest feature animation film “My Little World.” There will also be talks by French film music composer Pascal Le Pennec, as well as speakers from Taiwan's 3D animation industry.
