The Kuandu Arts Festival is set to kick off with a bang, featuring various activities – including concerts, plays, films and exhibitions – from October 4 till 27 around a theme that encourages artists to transcend themselves.
The festival is marking its 20th anniversary since debuting in 1993, and it is also time to reexamine one's own position, commented TNUA President Prof. Yang Chyi-Wen.
This year, the theme, "Crossover," is meant to urge artists to arm themselves with an adventurous spirit, overcoming barriers and trying their hands at cross-field collaboration in order to transcend their own achievements and limitations, Prof. Yang remarked.
While the present era attaches much importance to integration and crossing-over in artistic creativity, this year's festival also aims to underscore the emergence of an Asian cultural scene.
It will feature various artists, performers and programs from many parts of Asia, such as "A Gambling World" from Macau, "Animal Farm" from Malaysia, and "The Chairs" from Japan.
There will also be concerts of traditional Taiwanese music and puppet shows.
The Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts will open an exhibition "Asia Cruise," which will run till December 15.
The Kuandu International Animation Festival (KDIAF), holding its first-ever competition this year, will present prizes to the winners in a ceremony on October 26.
KDIAF received 450 entries from 48 countries, and 46 of them were selected for competition and 17 for screening.
All activities will take place on the TNUA campus. For more information, visit: www.kdarts.tnua.edu.tw/festival/2013
