The TNUA School of Music hosted the“Asia Flutists Federation – The 5th Congress”in December, gathering outstanding musicians from Taiwan, Japan, Korea and China.
The four-day event – starting from December 12 – featured lectures and concerts, as well as cross-disciplinary performances with dancers. There was also an exhibition of music instruments, plus free maintenance service.
Prof. Hwei-Jin Liu, dean of the School of Music, noted that the Asia Flutists Federation was founded by Kim Chang-Kook, Prof. Emeritus Kim Chang-Kook of the Tokyo University of the Arts in Tokyo in April 2008, and since then Asian cities have been taking turns to host the annual congress.
She said the 2012 event was hosted by the TNUA School of Music, which arranged a series of 17 concerts and lectures.
The guest speakers for the lectures were: Prof. Enokida Masayoshi, principal flutist of the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra; Prof. Kim; Prof. Takagi Ayako from the Tokyo University of the Arts; Mr. Kanda Hiroaki, principal flutist of the NHK Symphony Orchestra; and Prof. Han Guoliang from the Central Conservatory of Music.
Consummate flutists played in concerts featuring solo, chamber music and concerto performances. On December 13 there was a unique production combining almost 40 musicians with 19 TNUA dance students in the rendition of 11 works.
Prof. Kim and all other participants described the TNUA-hosted congress as the best ever since its inception of the federation.
