Mr. Boo Sze Yang from Singapore ran a one-week exhibition at the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts (KdMoFA) in mid-December to conclude his more than one month long residency at the museum.
The artist in residence started his stay at KdMoFA on November 19, during which he created site-specific art and gave lectures.
The prolific artist graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 1991. He completed his postgraduate diploma in fine art at the UK's University of Reading, UK in 1995 and received a master in arts degree from Chelsea College of Art & Design, the University of the Arts London in 2005.
His art explores unconventional subject matters, from mundane domestic objects, images of car and airplane crash-scenes, to the glittering interiors of cathedrals and derelict interiors of shopping malls. He is not bounded by any tradition or style, treating banal objects, serene interiors or destructive scenes as if metaphors for the human condition.
Mr. Boo has held 12 solo exhibitions and represented Singapore in numerous group exhibitions in Australia, Japan, China, Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, the UK and USA.
His works have been collected by the Singapore Art Museum, the Singapore Istana Art Collection, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore, United Overseas Bank, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and Yingu Art Mansion in Beijing.
