The Department of New Media Art organized an exhibition, “MUSHBOOM! game over,” for the winners of the TNUA NMA Excellence Award at the Center for Art and Technology from May 9-18.
An award presentation was held on May 9, the opening day of the exhibition, which featured the 12 award-winning works, as well as four art installations.
It was the second time the TNUA NMA Excellence Award exhibition was held at the Center for Art and Technology.
“MUSHBOOM! game over” was an endeavor to break free from conventional frameworks of exhibition format and spatial boundaries. Centered around the
imagery of arcade machines, the exhibition explored diverse modes of presentation and challenges the limits of creative practice.
This year’s exhibition also incorporated initiatives led by New Media Art students, including a student-run DJ collective and blockchain community. A series of talks and workshops invited public participation, deepening the audience’s engagement while expanding the possibilities for new media creation and dialogue. This multidimensional experiment sought to dissolve the boundaries between art and technology, forging new paths of interdisciplinary exchange.
At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, three students also received the Justin Douglas Tygar Scholarship. Prof. Fujui Wang, chairperson of the Department of New Media Art, said the scholarship is both a financial assistance and a token of an ideal.
Tygar, a professor at the School of Information and Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, UC Berkeley, was an ardent lover of art and
paid a lot of attention to the development of art and technology education in Taiwan. The scholarship was set up with donation from his widow.
