TNUA took part in the Luzhunan Arts Festival that raised the curtain in Miaoli County on February 24 – the Lantern Festival.
TNUA’s participation, which was part of its university social responsibility (USR) project and in collaboration with various entities in the county, allowed students to get involved in the planning and implementation of community activities.
It was the 11th edition of the annual festival this year, which also expanded the participation of young people from Luzhunan to demonstrate their creativity.
TNUA President Prof. Chen Kai-Huang noted that TNUA has been paying much attention to important cultural communities and rural areas that have been ignored by others around Taiwan. TNUA took part in the Luzhunan Arts Festival in order to fulfill its USR and help preserve the local culture.
Prof. Chen, accompanied by Mr. Brandon Lin, a recipient of a TNUA honorary doctoral degree, visited the Luzhunan Historical House and admired other art installations of the festival.
Since 2018, TNUA Vice President Prof. Liu Huei-Ling has served as producer for the arts festival. Over the past few years, the festival has undergone a lot of changes, becoming a national activity. Guests of honor attending the festival this year included Miaoli County Magistrate Chung Tung-chin.
Red lanterns were hung at the Luzhunan Historical House, while art installations stood at various parts of the community with visitors exploring the lanes and alleys during the festival.
Activities included handicraft DIY and children’s games that gave visitors a glimpse of the traditional village life. There were also festive performances at the square in front of the Tungtian Temple, including dances by a local group of mothers, and performances by TNUA students from the Department of Traditional Music and the MIT program.
