TNUA signed an MoU with the National Palace Museum (NPM) and Taiwan AI Labs on October 16 to jointly promote metaverse applications in the world of art, as it unveiled the Center for Art and Technology.

TNUA also announced it has entered the era of metaverse for the university of arts.

The collaboration leverages academic, government and industry resources to deepen the integration of art and technology, creating artistic contents making use of big data, cloud computing, blockchain, AI and other technologies.

At a press conference announcing TNUA’s metaverse aspirations, there was a preview of the highlights of “Circuit Garden,” the opening show of the Center for Art and Technology.

TNUA President Prof. Chen Kai-Huang presided over the press conference, along with other school officials and members of the team that created “Circuit Garden.”

Prof. Chen noted that 32 years have passed since TNUA started planning for the Center for Art and Technology. The center is not just a campus facility, but also an important milestone in the development art and technology in Taiwan, Prof. Chen stressed.

The collaboration with the NPM and Taiwan AI Labs will form a brand new platform that supports the integration of technology into higher education in art, and explores diverse possibilities, Prof. Chen said. It can be relied on for expanding the reach of art and culture.

Prof. Chen pointed out that “Circuit Garden” is like a key to the door of metaverse, taking the audience to a journey through the metaverse. The opening show was created by a team comprising of members from different departments of the university, including Music, Theatre Arts, New Media Art, Dance and Filmmaking.

On October 20, Prof. Lee Fong-Mao, a member of the Academia Sinica, will preside over a Taoist ceremony showing gratitude to all those who have played a part in promoting art and technology, and praying for good fortune for the center.

NPM Director Hsiao Tsung-Huang noted that the industry and academic world are on the different ends of the spectrum, the former making products and the latter doing experiments. He said the NPM can be a bridge between them.

Taiwan AI Labs founder Ethan Tu said that technology is based on humanity, and art defines the human experience. Artistic creativity, be it music composition, choreography or stage design, can make use of generative AI to achieve virtual experience. He said the collaboration between TNUA, NPM and Taiwan AI Labs has redefined the integration of art and technology.
