TNUA’s Indigenous Students Resource Center, to mark the school’s 30th anniversary and the center’s 1st anniversary, organized an “Indigenous Culture Week” from October 25 to 28, which featured a series of lectures, workshops and charity sale of indigenous handicraft items.

The event gave visitors an opportunity to savor indigenous foods, buy indigenous handicraft items, learn traditional weaving, and others.

Taiwan has 16 indigenous tribes: Amis, Atayal, Paiwan, Bunun, Pinuyumayan, Rukai, Tsou, Saisiyat, Yami, Thao, Kavalan, Truku, Sakizaya, Sediq, Hla’alua, and Kanakanavu.

With financial support from the Ministry of Education and Council of Indigenous Peoples, TNUA established the Indigenous Students Resource Center on October 22, 2020, to support its indigenous students. TNUA current has 74 indigenous students.

On October 27, indigenous students from some other universities in northern Taiwan, including Tamkang University, Taipei City University of Science and Technology, Taipei University of Marine Technology, and St. John’s University, joined a flash activity. Dressed in their traditional costumes, they presented their cultures with dances and songs.

The flash activity was organized by “Dalan” an indigenous students’ club.
