The Gallery of TNUA History was unveiled on October 21 on the eve of the university’s 34th anniversary.

The gallery, located on the seventh floor of the school library, holds a collection of 647 items on display to tell the history of TNUA starting from the establishment of a preparatory office for the birth of the school.

The items in the collection include 30 interviews concerning TNUA’s history, 16 videos of the highlights of milestone performances and exhibitions, and a number of photographs, documents, manuscripts, newspaper clippings, posters and programs.

Defined in a very different way from other schools’archives rooms or halls of fame, the Gallery of TNUA History highlights its role as “The Road to Arts,” showing how TNUA, as an institution fully dedicated to arts education, has been promoting and constructing new concepts of art, new methods for arts education, and new forms of performances and exhibitions, and what
influences they have created.

The history of TNUA is a road to arts that Taiwan’s top artists, researchers, university administrators and young students have together explored, traveled and set the foundation for. It is not only a record of the university’s important internal work, but also an essential piece of a bigger picture of the development of modern art in Taiwan.

TNUA President Prof. Yang Chyi Wen noted that the establishment of the gallery not only preserves the memories and important records of all members of TNUA, but also serves as a new mechanism for writing the school’s history and sharing it with the outside world.
