German choreographer and dancer Prof. Henrietta Horn recently conducted a series of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch training courses at TNUA, directing a dance that students presented on October 2.

Prof. Horn from the Folkwang University of the Arts shared the position of artistic director of the Folkwang Tanzstudio (FTS) with Pina Bausch from 1999 to 2008. As its artistic director, Prof. Horn created for the FTS Company 10 choreographies, which were presented at numerous guest performances in Germany and abroad.

Her works have won her several prizes, including the prestigious Female Artists' Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia for choreography/contemporary dance in 2008.

In 2013, she was commissioned to reconstruct Mary Wigman's 1957 "Sacre du Printemps" to be performed at the theatres of Osnabruck and Bielefeld.
She has also been invited to Indonesia, Cameroon, Japan and other countries to conduct workshops and co-create dances with local choreographers.

Prof. Horn's courses brought the training of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch to TNUA, expanding the perspectives for its students.

She said that apart from their bodily skills, dance students should also develop their power of critical thinking and observe society more, which will add extra dimensions to their art in terms of esthetic value and humanity.

Prof. Horn said the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch training stresses the intricate relationships between the inner motives of the body language and the social construct.

She said this is an answer to artists' desire to let their art be a response to the various political, economic and social issues they are facing.
