Prof. Tobie S. Stein, head of the Graduate Performing Arts Management Concentration, Brooklyn College, City University of New York, gave a talk on "Leadership in the Performing Arts" at TNUA on September 24.

Prof. Stein delivered the talk at the invitation of the TNUA Graduate Institute of Arts Administration and Management.

At the start of the talk, Prof. Stein had each of the audience members introduce themselves, and share their own experiences and expectations for future work.

She then noted that wherever she teaches, the first thing she does is to know everyone in her class.

She stressed that people should be admired for having the courage to speak up and introduce themselves, which also helps others better understand them.

Prof. Stein said one of the most important traits of a leader is the ability to respect others. If people fail to respect their working partners, no one will be willing to follow them.

It is also important to know and interact with each of your employees, which will enable one to discover and make good use of their different qualities and capabilities.

Before joining the faculty at Brooklyn College, Professor Stein created and directed a certificate program in nonprofit management and communications at the Center for Advanced Study in Education of the Graduate School of CUNY.
