Two works from the collection of TNUA’s Center for Art and Technology were on display at the Taiwan Academy in New York for about six weeks since mid October, demonstrating the beauty of Taiwanese culture through technological experiences.
The Taiwan Academy has a mission to introduce to the world Chinese culture with Taiwanese characteristics. With the help of advanced technology, the academy offers Chinese learning, promote traditional Chinese characters, advance Sinology and Taiwan studies, and showcase Taiwan’s cultural diversity.
The academy provides a digital information platform to let the world understand the Taiwanese culture and its trend.
To mark the opening the New York branch of the Taiwan Academy, TNUA devised an exhibition to showcase the marriage of art and technology in Taiwan through digital interaction and creative learning. It lent two works from its Center for Art and Technology for a one and half month exhibition starting from October 14: “The Myth of Personphone,” and “Calligraphy Jukebox,”
“The Myth of Personphone” is a virtual reality interactive device inspired by the Chinese classic novel, “Flowers in the Mirror.” The device creates a 3D virtual space to represent the Zen philosophy of nothingness through effects of lights and sounds.
“Calligraphy Jukebox,” created by is a jukebox-like interactive piece combining Chinese calligraphy and traditional Taiwanese music. Visitors choose from available texts, copy the characters with a brush on the touchscreen, and the system will then play corresponding music.
