A delegation of more than 20 TNUA musicians and dancers performed at The International Dance and Music Festival hosted by Thailand's Srinakharinwirot University in January.

The delegation, headed by Prof. Rung-Shun Wu, dean of the School of Music, and formed by teachers and students from both the Department of Traditional Music and Department of Dance, also conducted workshops during their 10-day exchange trip to Thailand.

The festival, which entered its fourth edition this year, mainly features traditional dance and music of various countries. This year, it featured dozens of teams of performers from Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, as well as from the host country.

Prof. Wu noted that it was the third year that TNUA performers have participated in the festival, where they have performed puppet shows, traditional Taiwanese folk dance and others.

This year, dances were specifically created to accompany some classic Nanguan and Beiguan music performed at the festival, Prof. Wu said.

The TNUA artists staged a total of seven concerts at Srinakharinwirot University, Nakornsawan Rajabhat University, Khampaeng Phet Rajabha University, Ramkhamhaeng University and the Seacon Square.

One of the TNUA performers, Hsiao Yu-chun, a junior from the Department of Traditional Music, said such overseas exchange activities not only offer students the opportunities to present on an international stage what they have learned at school, but also allow more people to understand Taiwan's culture.

Meanwhile, another 20-member delegation from the Department of Traditional Music, headed by Prof. Lin Po-Chi, was in Singapore for a three-day exchange program in late January.

Apart from staging a series of performances, the TNUA delegates also met with scholars and experts from China and Singapore at a forum hosted by the School of the Arts.
