Legendary pianist Prof. Eugen Indjic gave a series of lectures and concerts, as well as one-on-one instructions to students at TNUA in November.
Prof. Indjic's two-week visit at the invitation of the Department of Music began on November 3.
The renowned pianist gave a total of three talks during the visit – on Chopin Mazurkas, Heinrich Schenker’s theory, and Beethoven’s sonatas.
During his talk on Chopin, he illustrated his analysis by playing many of the Chopin's works. During his talk on Beethoven, he gave demonstrations as well as one-on-one instructions to students.
The pianist gave two solo recitals on November 7 and 14 respectively, performing works by Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Schumann, and Debussy.
Prof. Constance Kuo-Yuan Lee revealed that it had taken the Department of Music almost two years to arrange Prof. Indjic's vist. Prof. Lee also thanked La France a Taiwan for its assistance.
Prof. Indjic was born in Belgrade in 1947, and moved to the United States at the age of four. He then started taking piano lessons with Liubov Stephani and gave his first public performance at the age of nine.
He was a prize winner at three international contests - Warsaw (1970), Leeds (1972), and Rubinstein Tel Aviv (1974), and has performed with the leading orchestras of the United States, Europe and Asia, and under such conductors as Leonard Bernstein, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Valery Gergiev, Eugen Jochum, Rafael Kubelik, Erich Leinsdorf, Kurt Sanderling, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Georg Solti, Edo de Waart and David Zinman.
