TNUA teachers and students went abroad to participate in two major international dance events – the 2013 Asia Pacific Dance Festival in Hawaii and the ArtsCross London 2013 – during the summer break.
The TNUA delegation to the biannual event in Hawaii, led by Prof. Ku Ming-Sheng, dean of the School of Dance, participated in workshops and forums, and also staged two performances.
During their stay, they also boarded the USS Missouri battleship and performed a traditional dance of one of Taiwan's indigenous peoples.
This was the second time a TNUA delegation has visited Hawaii this year, and on both occasions, the visitors were invited to perform on board the USS Missouri.
In London, 15 students and teachers from TNUA formed part of a group in a three-week event that gathered together a total of nine choreographers, 30 dancers and 18 dance scholars from Taipei, Beijing and London starting from July 18.
Through forums, collaboration, rehearsals, and brainstorming, the event allowed all participants to discuss and understand each other's culture and art, cumulating in the staging of “My Dear No.8,”a dance they jointly created in response to this year's theme “Leaving home: being elsewhere.”
This year's program was led by Prof. Christopher Bannerman and Dr. Martin Welton.
